Ad plot
The ClearTax newspaper ad featuring the witty headline “Don’t file income tax…on the last day” was a print campaign that ran around the ITR filing deadline in 2022.
- The main text, “Don’t file income tax,” was written in a large, bold font to immediately capture the reader’s attention and create a moment of surprise or shock.
- In a much smaller font size directly below the main text was the second part of the sentence: “…on the last day“. This clever wordplay subverted expectations and delivered the core message.
- The ad included a QR code and the tagline “tax filing in minutes” to guide users to the ClearTax website, emphasizing the speed and ease of using their platform.
- The ad was strategically placed on the front page of leading newspapers to maximize visibility on the day when procrastination was likely highest.

Reception & Recall
The objective of the ad was to:
- Target the common behavior of delaying tax filing until the very last minute.
- Promote ClearTax’s platform, particularly its 100% pre-fill solution, which allowed users to file their returns in as little as 3 minutes by automatically filling in data from bank statements and Form 16.
- Reassure users that filing taxes was no longer a complex or arduous task, thereby eliminating mindset barriers associated with ITR filing.
This print campaign was part of a larger media push that also included digital ads and social media content featuring the theme of “eternal procrastination”.
